Megapower utilizes the latest technology from its R&D Department in Hong Kong and China and applies them to its modern manufacturing plant located in China to develop products for the industry.  As a versatile manufacturer, Megapower makes products under their own name as well as for other OEM manufacturers.

Company History

In 1987, Megapower Electronics Ltd. was established in Hong Kong.  In the beginning, the company was only engaged in the trading and distribution of semiconductor components.  But soon the company recognized, and sought to exploit, the growth potential of the electronics industry. By early 1988, Megapower began manufacturing electronic/ computer parts and equipments, focusing initially on ASIC circuits, fax cards and LCD projection panels.

 

In 1988 the R&D team of Megapower introduced a high-qualify and reasonably-priced EGA/CGA LCD projection panel to the market. In 1990, Megapower was the first company in Hong Kong/China to introduce laser pointer for the presentation market.

 

The Company has been recognized for excellence in product design by the electronics industry under many occasions.  Its LCD projection panel and LCD projector received the 1992 Governor’s Award for Industry for Consumer Design and the Governor’s Award for Industry for machinery and Equipment Design in 1993 and 1996.

 

In 1993 the China Distribution office was formed and in 1994 the US distribution office was set up.  Their purpose is to distribute and service products manufactured by its sister company in Hong Kong.

On the production side, all of the production work is being performed in China.  Production facilities have been formed to cater to the different product lines. 

 

In 2010 a joint venture company is formed in Tianjin, China---Mego Optoelectronics.  The main charter of this company is to focus on Pico and Micro Projector design and manufacturing.  Since then, a line of battery operated LED DLP pico and micro projectors has been released to market.  The ML131 Android based Pico Projector has was well received in the China and International Market.  Pico Projector manufacturing is now located in Shenzhen, China.  The Joint Venture Company has also designed and manufactured pico and micro projectors on OEM basis for some major brands.  A warehouse and service center in USA to support sales for the US market is being planned.

 

Company Management

Megapower’s present management team is led by Mr.Edmond Chow who is Managing Director of the company.  Mr.Chow is a “hands-on” businessman who oversees product development from conception to final sale.

 

Mr.Chow received his Engineering Degree with First Class Honour from University of Hong Kong in 1974 and his Masters Degree in Electronics Engineering from Netherlands University Foundation in 1976.  In 1982, he was awarded an MBA Degree from Chinese University of Hong Kong.  He has been a Chartered Engineer of Institute of Electrical Engineering since 1988.

 

Prior to founding the Company, Mr.Chow has gained extensive engineering and marketing experience while working for Texas Instruments, a major US Electronics Company for 10 years.

 

Mr.Ray Tao is a Director of Sales of the company.  He graduated from the Communication Department of Hong Kong Baptist University in 1974 and, in the course of his career, earned an executive MBA qualifications from Chinese University of Hong Kong.  An executive-turned-businessman, Mr.Tao has worked in various sales/marketing as well as general management positions with several multinational companies including R.J.Reynolds, Melitta, BP(British Petroleum) and Smithkline Beecham Ltd.

 

Prior to joining Megapower as a Director in 1999, he has been the Hong Kong/china General Manager of BP-Consumer Product Division and was General Manager—China of Smithkline Beecham Ltd., the multinational healthcare/ consumer products company.  Currently at Megapower, Mr.Tao heads the “consumer” business and strategic planning function.

 

Megapower’s total product solution philosophy continues through manufacturing to after-sales support. “Do it right the first time”, and “continuous improvement and innovation” are the company’s guiding principles.
